Igniting Young Minds: Velammal Institute’s Industrial Connect at Askan Technologies

In a world where the tech sector advances at breakneck speed, on the 24th of April 2025, 40 students from the AI and Data Science department of Velammal Institute of Technology embarked on a huge leap into the future. Askan Technologies gave them the privilege of experiencing how innovation transforms the tech scene and drives real-world problem-solving. Their students were accompanied by their committed staff members, Mr. Dinesh Kumar and Ms. Abirami, who both worked as Assistant Professors in the same department. Having them present and participating actively during the visit contributed immensely to the experience, advising students through technical sessions and facilitating meaningful interactions with the industry professionals at Askan Technologies.

Velammal Institute of Technology – Shaping Future Innovators

Velammal Institute of Technology, founded in 2008, is offering technical education of international standards in branches like ECE, CSE, EEE, IT, and MECH with scope for expansion. The institute is equipped with world-class infrastructure and is staffed by 136 experienced teaching members with several doctorates among them. The college enrolls 1838 students and provides exclusive facilities such as special labs in areas like VLSI, Power Electronics, Data Structures, and numerous more. The campus is also provided with separate hostels for male and female students in order to give an amicable and cordial atmosphere for intellectual and personal development.

Exploring the Culture and Operations of Askan Technologies

  As part of the visit, students were given an in-depth look at how a technology company operates in real time at Askan Technologies. They observed the collaboration between various departments such as development, testing, project management, and designing. The team at Askan provided valuable insights into the tools, technologies, and processes currently driving real-world IT projects. More than just an office walkthrough, this was an opportunity for students to see firsthand how teamwork, innovation, and technical expertise come together to deliver client-focused solutions. The aim was to bridge the gap between academic learning and the expectations of the professional world. The experience left a lasting impression, resonating with the students and enhancing their understanding of how their studies apply in a real-world setting.

An Interactive and Inspiring Session

The interactive session led by Mrs. Meenakshi Devi, the Head of Human Resources at Askan Technologies, proved to be one of the most engaging and insightful parts of the visit. Drawing from her extensive experience in the tech industry and talent development, Mrs. Meenakshi provided the students with valuable insights into the latest industry trends, career prospects, and how to align academic knowledge with the demands of the professional world. She encouraged students to ask questions and explore their curiosities about the IT industry, career paths, and emerging technologies. Her approachable and interactive style made the session not only informative but also highly inspiring, leaving the students with a clear understanding of how to navigate their future careers. Krithika posed one of these questions: "As a Data Science student, can I take any course in coding in parallel?" Mrs. Meenakshi replied: "Absolutely. If you have an interest in coding, you should explore it. There are plenty of opportunities to upskill through internships and short-term courses. Choose a path that matches your interest and future goals. At Askan Technologies, we also offer internship programs that can help students gain hands-on experience in areas they are passionate about." The debate went on with yet another question by Mohammad Parves, and it was a technical one: "What course would lead us to easily get placed in companies these days - Java or Python?" Mrs. Meenakshi answered: "Rather than isolating yourself to one language, consider a Full Stack Development course. It includes both front-end and back-end technologies, which makes you more versatile. Also, take time to understand the tech stack used by the companies you're aiming for. Learn based on where you want to work. Flexibility and adaptability are key in today’s IT world." These interactive conversations not only met the particular needs but also enlightened the students by offering them relevant knowledge, thereby aiding them in defining their own study paths as per the expectations of the industries.
